Who Do We Think We Are?
We are experts at playing pretend. So much so that "being authentic" these days is used as an excuse.
We take pride in our progress and growth. Isn't pride considered one of — if not the most serious — sin? Why do we use pride as an honorable expression knowing what it actually represents?
We are lost. We don't want to admit it.
We choose safety over change. We identify with the fickle social culture of our times, pressure ourselves and each other into conformity, and frown upon anyone who questions it.
Quite frankly — who do we think we are?
A few observations:
We go to therapy. Read the books. Get the degrees. Know our attachment style, Myers-Briggs, Enneagram type. Ruminate on our childhood wounds.
And yet.
Look at us — still doing the same thing.
To the same people.
In the same way.
This is not bad luck.
This is… us. Our ego.
This is a script that is running your life, and mine.
The external circumstance(s) is never the problem. WE are using it as a story to stay comfortable while looking like someone who's doing the work. 👀
That's the con.
And you know it. I know it.
Real change doesn't seek attention.
Doesn't need to be announced.
Doesn't even feel like progress.
Real change is hard, inconsistent, uncomfortable.
It feels humiliating admitting we could be wrong about ourselves.
And sitting with that.
Without immediately making it another story.
That's it.
Not pride. Humility.
Not peak experiences. Surrender.
Not glorious transformations. Extra ordinary simplicity.
Nobody is selling this in healing services community
because nobody wants to buy this.
But it's the only thing that actually works.
If you're tired of lying to yourself, willing to detach from your story, and can handle discomfort —
you may have just landed at the right spot.
